Sometimes you don’t have to go far to get away.
This photograph was taken early one morning on Lake Allatoona, Georgia, just 30 minutes from our home. My husband and I had slipped away for a quick kayaking trip—nothing elaborate, just a little time outside to recharge.
The lake was quiet, a light mist hovered over the water, and for a while everything seemed wonderfully still. It was exactly what we needed.
From Photograph to Art
The original photograph captured my husband paddling into the calm morning water. In reimagining it, I wanted to hold onto that feeling of stillness while bringing more expression to the light, reflections, and subtle movement of the lake.
The finished piece uses richer color and painterly texture to capture not just what that morning looked like, but what it felt like to be there.
