One moment. More than one way to see it.
This photograph began during a vacation in Florida. We were out on the water when a sailboat passed nearby and immediately caught my attention. I captured the moment almost instinctively—the boat moving across an expanse of blue water and sky.
That single photograph has since inspired more than one piece of art, each taking the original moment in a different direction.
From Photograph to Art
One interpretation stays close to the beautiful blues of the original photograph. For Sailing Beneath a Painted Sky, I wanted to explore something different.
I pushed beyond the original palette, bringing in richer golds, violets, teals, and warm touches of orange while adding more movement and expression to the water and sky. The sailboat remains the quiet focal point, but the world surrounding it becomes more energetic and imaginative.
It’s one of the things I enjoy most about transforming photography into art: the photograph captures what I saw; the artwork lets me explore what else I can see in it.
